I promise that the cadavers will be treated with dignity

Prof. (Dr.) Shaukat Jeelani
(M.B.B.S, M.S ,F.l.C.S)

Principal/Dean, Govt. Medical College,
Anantnag, J&K

Govt. Medical College, Anantnag is one of the five new Medical Colleges approved by Government of India in 2014, and after inspection by MCI, the college was allowed to start admission for MBBS in May, 2019. The college aims to be the centre of excellence for health promotion, disease prevention, training and research and promote a sustainable and positive change in public health through learning, discovery and communication.

One of the basic subjects on which lies the foundation of medical education and training is Anatomy. Apart from gadgets and equipment, human cadavers act as silent teachers. They are the most important components of teaching and research in the field of Anatomy. Cadaver dissection allows students to find the pathologic processes that have happened on a large scale, things like tumor formations, enlarged organs or past surgical procedures. It can be truly eye-opening for students to see the effects of diseases within the human body beyond what a textbook is capable of showing.

We were facing acute shortage of the cadavers at our college, due to which our efforts to impart quality medical education to the students was not up to the desired standard. Last year, I had discussions regarding this with Mr. Alok kumar, who is the patron of Dadhichi Deh Dan Samiti. ‘Dadhichi Deh Dan Samiti’ was very prompt in their response and came to our rescue. ‘Dadhichi Deh Dan Samiti’ is dedicated to the cause of spreading awareness on Body – Organ – Eyes – Stem Cell Donation. It motivates people to make a pledge for body-organ donation during life, and gets their pledge executed after death, in Delhi and NCR since 1997. They provided us with 7 cadavers within a span of 2 months. This was a great service to the cause of humanity.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Dadhichi Deh Dan Samiti, New Delhi for being kind enough to provide human cadavers, for teaching & research, to Govt. Medical College Anantnag (J&K) and I promise that the cadavers will be treated with dignity and respect that these noble souls deserve and even more, for the contribution they make in uplifting the standards of medical education and research, especially the discipline of Human Anatomy. This is a great cause and Dadhichi Deh Dan Samiti deserves praise and gratitude for this divine work. I hope that this cooperation will continue in future as well.

May God give them strength to realize the dream of “Swasth Sabal Bharat”.
