Inspiring the Youth: Dadhichi Deh Daan Samiti’s Outreach in Colleges

Introduction

The Dadhichi Deh Daan Samiti, a respected organization committed to the noble cause of organ and body donation, partnered with the University of Delhi to launch a youth-centric awareness campaign. The primary aim was to sensitize students about the significance of donating organs and bodies after death to save lives and advance medical science.

Campaign Launch at the University of Delhi

The organ and body donation campaign across colleges of the University of Delhi began as a collaborative effort between the Dadhichi Deh Daan Samiti and the university’s leadership. It was initiated after a meaningful meeting between Shri Alok Kumar Aggarwal, Patron of Dadhichi Deh Daan Samiti, the Vice Chancellor of Delhi University, and the NSS Coordinator and other prominent officials from University of Delhi. Recognizing the power of young minds in creating social change, this meeting laid the groundwork for what would become one of the university’s most impactful awareness movements.

To support this initiative, a training session was organized for university officials and college coordinators by Samiti. The aim was to provide them with the right knowledge and tools to hold effective awareness programs within their institutions. Soon after, the Dean Students’ Welfare (DSW), in collaboration with Dadhichi Deh Daan Samiti, issued a formal circular to all affiliated and constituent colleges, encouraging them to actively participate in a university-wide campaign on organ and body donation.

The campaign was designed not just to inform, but to engage. Colleges were encouraged to involve students in creative, meaningful ways. Under the guidance of Samiti, colleges organized expert lectures, interactive sessions with grassroot workers in the field of organ donation, doctors and transplant coordinators, pledge-taking drives, film screenings and student-led events such as poster-making, poem and reel competitions and slogan writing. These activities helped spark conversations around organ and body donation—topics that are often misunderstood or avoided. The campaign began with an intensive outreach initiative across various colleges of the University of Delhi including Miranda House, Hansraj College, and Shri Ram College of Commerce, among others.

What made this campaign unique was the level of ownership students took. In several colleges, students and faculty went a step further by forming dedicated Organ Donation Societies. These societies plan to organize awareness drives every year so that each incoming batch of students continues to learn about the importance of organ and body donation. This ensures that the message is not just one-time but becomes a part of the college culture.

The success of this model soon spread beyond Delhi. Inspired by the impact and enthusiasm in University of Delhi colleges, institutions in Gurugram, Faridabad, and Sonipat also adopted similar awareness programs. What began as a centrally coordinated initiative quickly transformed into a youth-led movement that continues to grow and inspire others.

A few highlights include:

  • Student volunteers from the National Service Scheme (NSS) units actively participated in organizing and promoting events.
  • Doctors from medical colleges such as Lady Hardinge Medical College, Army College of Medical Sciences and University College of Medical Sciences provided expert sessions on the medical and ethical aspects of organ donation.
  • Awareness posters and donor pledge forms were circulated widely through both offline and online modes.

Expansion to Other Regions

Inspired by the positive response from Delhi University colleges, the campaign was expanded to educational institutions in Gurugram, Faridabad, and Sonipat. In Gurugram, institutions such as Gurugram University, Govt. College for Girls Sector-14, and Global Institute of Technology and Management participated enthusiastically. In Faridabad, the campaign reached medical colleges like Amrita Hospital, ESI Medical College, and Manav Rachna Institute. Similarly, in Sonipat, students from GVM Girls College actively engaged with the program.

Additionally, institutions in Ghaziabad and other parts of Delhi—such as Tibia Ayurvedic College and Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Medical College—also joined hands to support the movement.

Impact and Community Response

The campaign generated widespread enthusiasm and engagement across campuses. In addition to attending awareness talks, students enthusiastically participated in a range of creative activities such as poster-making, reel-making, poem competitions and slogan writing to spread the message of organ and body donation in impactful ways.

Colleges have committed to organizing awareness events annually, ensuring that every new batch of students is sensitized to this life-saving cause. This self-driven momentum reflects a deep emotional and intellectual investment by students and faculty alike.

Looking Ahead

Encouraged by the success of this awareness drive, Dadhichi Deh Daan Samiti is committed to expanding the program further. We plan to organize similar awareness sessions in more colleges across Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and other states. We also aim to:

  • Collaborate with university-level medical councils and student
  • Develop digital toolkits for remote colleges to implement awareness
  • Conduct training for student ambassadors who can lead this cause in their

The outreach program by Dadhichi Deh Daan Samiti marks a significant step in creating a compassionate and informed generation of young Indians.
