47th Festival of Dehdaanis

December 17, 2022

Dronacharya Government College, Gurugram

Deep and positive impact on the psyche of society

Dadhichi Deh Dan Samiti celebrated its 47th Utsav today on December 17, 2022 at Dronacharya Government College, Gurugram. It was a special and propitious occasion for the Gurugram unit of Dadhichi Deh Dan Samiti as well as the college for it was also the first ever occasion that a 'Dedaniyon ka Utsav' was celebrated by the organisation on the sacred land of Guru Dronacharya. Around 175 people were in attendance who remained glued to their seats despite the fact that the programme overshot its stipulated time limit by one and a half hours. The audience were so engrossed in the speeches of the esteemed speakers that they seemed to have lost the count of time. The outbursts of thunderous clapping kept following one after the other, which was a sure proof of the involvement and appreciation of all those who were in attendance.

The programme was successful in achieving its two-fold objectives. Not only did it succeed in spreading awareness towards organ donation among the audience who included students, teachers and other people of the area from all walks of life, but the family members of the organ and body donors were also felicitated which left a deep and positive impact on the psyche of all those who were present. 87 pledge holders and 17 families of body and eye donors were felicitated in this program.

The programme was started with the lightening of lamp in front of portrait of great Rishi Dadhichi and chanting of mantra by Mrs. Manju Prabha, Vice President Dadhichi Dehdan Samiti. The 'Utsav' was presided over by Shri Alok Kumar, Patron, Dadhichi Deh Dan Samiti, and the International Working President, Vishav Hindu Parishad, who gave an overview of the birth and journey of the NGO. He quoted examples from Indian mythology and history to counter the taboos which work against the noble cause of organ and body donation. He also pointed out how prominent saints in the country have supported the cause of body donation.

Shri Kamal Khurana, Mahamantri, Dadhichi Deh Dan Samiti, was the first speaker to address the gathering. He spoke efficiently and with great clarity on all the important aspects of organ and body donation. He made a very effective use of PPTs and threw light on the nitty-gritty, i. e. the practical aspects of this largely unheard-of and generally misunderstood field of organ donation.

Shri Pawan Jindal, Haryana Prant Sangh Chalak, RSS, was the Special Invitee who appealed the audience and the public in general to shed their religious dogmas and come forward in great numbers to pledge their eyes and bodies to help all the needy. He emphasized that this is the greatest donation that a person can make. It is a great service to both the nation and the humanity.

Shri Kanhaiya Lal ji Arya, Patron, Arya Pratinidhi Sabha, Haryana, was the Chief Speaker who proficiently quoted from all the four Vedas to bring home the point that all ancient Indian literature and philosophy support the noble cause of organ and body donation. He shared anecdotes from Puranas and Upanishads to prove that real 'moksha' lies in body donation and not in burning or burying it.

Dr. Jaideep Sharma, a well-known doctor and radiologist from Gurgaon shared his own story and experiences leaving a deep impact on everyone present in the hall. He showed through his own example how important and essential the idea of organ donation is, and why it should be spread among the public as fast and as soon as possible.

Dr. Virendra Antil, Principal, Dronacharya Government College gave the vote of thanks. He emphasized that everyone present in the hall must pledge their body for donation, adding that this Utsav would be considered really successful if at least 90% of the students and teachers of the college take this pledge. The vote of thanks was followed by high tea which was well-deserved after all these deliberations.
